“ La Esquinita is one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I've found. The food is excellent. The menu offers many traditional dishes that you just don't find in the more Americanized places. I highly recommend Tacos Quesa Birrilas. My wife is hooked on the soups. You might also like tripe or menudo. I'm not a fan but it's there if you want it. The service is good but can be challenging because most of the servers don't speak English. The menu however, is pretty straightforward so I've never had a problem. The decor is very simple. Nice bar area. I ding the score by one star because the outside patio area is in pretty bad shape. There is a market attached to the restaurant offering anything you could need to cook Mexican at home. Great place. ”

The tacos were plump and juicy and the soup was easily one of the best we've had in the metro area. I almost forgot to mention the salsas. “ So I have come to the conclusion that there are no bad Mexican Places on Collinsville Road. I have been a long time advocate of El Ranchito, and then moved across the street to Mi Tierra. Both are Mexican markets with a restaurant in back. But there are at least 7 or 8 more Places to try between the car race track and the horse race track. La Esquinita was a little forbidding. A small store up front and people were waiting in line to pay. It looked like they had all the necessities but also had a nice meat case. The music was blaring I. The restaurant which is a side area of the market and there is a bar on the far right wall. My initial waitress spoke no English but they found another one and I ordered my traditional 3 taco combo, Pastor, Asada and Pollo. I enjoyed their chips and salsa which started a slight sweat. The tacos came and we're excellent. Only one line wedge and Serrano pepper which I am sure a lot of people can handle but I chose to think of it as garnish. I also ordered a guava margarita and a coke since they had no iced tea. Tacos were served promptly and I think the whole thing cost me less than 20 bucks including tip. It was yet another wonderful experience. ”
